This ecosystem was designed to provide a familiar environment for the Emerald Tree Skink, Lamprolepis smaragdina, by capturing its Southeast Asian home. The majority of plant species are from this region, and the humidity and temperature are controlled to maintain fidelity with the forests of this skink’s natural habitat. The species itself is by no means low maintenance and requires regular feeding, but this home was designed to minimize maintenance. As such, all waste from the inhabitants is quickly decomposed by a thriving “cleanup crew” and recycled as nourishment to the plants. Edgeless sliding glass doors give a seamless view and are designed with the care requirements of the inhabitants in mind, allowing for effortless nondisruptive access to the ecosystem.
